I know what you are going through, and I know your concerns. Ten years ago, on the heels of Hurricane Rita, I lost everything. It wasn’t because of the hurricane – the timing was just a coincidence. But I lost my home, my job, my family, my friends…I lost myself. A five year detour from the path on which I started had brought me to this place of hopelessness, and suddenly I realized I was not where I wanted to be. I was scared, I was lost, and I was alone.

I had no idea when my life had changed. Everything happened so slowly and gradually that I never even noticed that I was so far from where I was meant to be. I had nothing and I didn’t know how I was going to be able to regain my life. I didn’t know if I was ever going to be okay again. I had so many questions and not a single answer. It was the darkest place I’ve ever been…still the darkest place I can imagine.

I didn’t know what to do, and I didn’t know how to fix everything I had broken, but I knew that I needed a change. I knew that this was not what I wanted for my life. This was not what God intended my life to be. He had a plan, and I had gotten sidetracked, but His plan had not changed and I needed to get it back. I needed to get back onto the path that I had drifted away from, regardless of what that meant. No matter what I had to do to get my life back, I was going to do it.

It was not easy to find myself again inside the person I had become. It took years and a lot of work and focus. It took prayer and the power of God, but I overcame. I got back on the path on which I had begun. I fixed everything I had broken – in myself and my relationships – and completed my education. I married the woman of my dreams, started a beautiful family, and found my passion in helping others to come through their own darkness.
